International Bridge Trade Corridor (IBTC)/ SH 68

The HCRMA completed the IBTC/SH 68 Preliminary Engineering phase. The final design (PS&E) and construction will be carried out by TxDOT. Learn more at www.txdot.gov.

The Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority completed the preliminary engineering for this proposed project that will construct a 13.15-mile non-tolled highway on a new location extending through the cities of Pharr, Alamo and Donna, enhancing mobility and international trade connections in the region. The project will utilize approximately 59.1 acres of existing transportation right-of-way, acquire an estimated 678.0 additional acres, and secure 28.3 acres of permanent easements for drainage and irrigation. To date, HCRMA has completed the Schematic Phase, obtained Environmental Clearance, and advanced early acquisition of 38.2 acres of right-of-way. With an estimated construction cost of $248 million in its ultimate configuration, the project will provide a vital connection from State Highway 365 to IH-2 in the eastern portion of the county, ultimately linking to the proposed SH 68 and the Donna Internation Bridge. Project’s construction has been funded by the Texas Department of Transportation and is expected to begin construction in the near future.
